Reims Vs Bastia
Decent odds on the home win and that will be my call. Both sides played cup games in midweek, both won and both managers fielded alternative sides, but I suggest Bastia played the Corsican derby against Ajaccio with more regulars than Reims did against Monaco. Anyway Bastia rarely achieve strong results on their travels with 0-2-4 this far. It looks like they have to play this game without their strikers Bruno and Keseru. Bruno for sure, he is suspended and Keseru was sent to the hospital after the derby and although he has returned home, I do not think he will be involved in this game.Last week Reims, without the suspended Fortes and Devaux, won away to Marseille. Quite something, wins against Marseille and Monaco in the same week. Devaux and Fortes will be available again and I am backing the home win.
Cardiff Vs Swansea
Assessing the odds, the home win has to be backed. It will be aN ALL Welsh battle and the way I see it, Cardiff are better equipped when it comes to fighting and working extremely hard, qualities you certainly need in a hot derby game. The Swansea captain A Williams was back playing for his club last week, but his colleague B Davies remains on their injury list. It was all Norwich at home to Cardiff (0-0), but Cardiff are a well organised side and they are in with a chance in most games, home and away. I expect the Cardiff work ethic to be decisive in this match. Backing Cardiff.
Everton Vs Tottenham
In real trouble away to Aston Villa, saved by their keeper, Everton still managed to win the match 2-0 and this writer was impressed. It is a very confident Everton side we have been watching this season and Lukaku is a regular scorer for the club. J Heitinga will be available again for Everton, but Alcaraz, D Gibson and Kone are not fit to play. Tottenham mostly look good although their perfomance against Hull in the league was sterile and predictable. They are potentially the better side of the two, but I prefer the Everton manager Martinez. He is my man, but I am not so sure about Villas Boas. I do not think Everton will be on the losing side.
Malaga Vs Betis
Backing Malaga. They have gone through a lean spell lately, no goals in their last four games, including an embarrassing 0-5 home loss against Celta Vigo. In midweek they faced Espanyol in Barcelona, a very tough away fixture, but they could return home with a well deserved point (0-0). In fact Malaga, using a 4-1-4-1 formation, were the better side, hitting the wood work on two occasions. S Sanchez, Juanmi and Fabrice were back in their starting line up. Fellow strugglers Betis played a home game against Levante last night. Down to ten men they fought heroically, but the injury plagued Betis had to settle for a 0-0 draw after missing two penalties. Both their defenders Amaya and Chica, playing from the start vs Levante, will miss this game and they are joining players like R Castro, Paulao, Vliarcho and Nosa on the sidelines. Coach Mel hopes that Salva Sevilla and Lolo Reyes will be able to return for this game. Betis are 0-1-4 on their travels. Likely home win for Malaga.
Verona Vs Cagliari
Amazing, is it not, that the newcomers from Verona have won all their five home games. Luca Toni scored in their first win, vs Milan and he also scored the other day, at home to Sampdoria. Defender Moras will once again be suspended and Verona have lost their striker J Gomez to an injury. He scored the other day and Toni will be joined by Iturbe and Martinho in their front line. It was a pretty awful Cagliari display at home to Bologna side missing their ace Diamanti. OK, Murru was red carded in the second half, but Cagliari looked off key already in the first half. Pinilla, A Ekdal and Murru will miss this match. Cagliari lost 0-3 against Bologna and it will be interesting to see how their young coach will handle this negative situation. As long as they keep on winning, support them, Verona, that is.
Lazio Vs Genoa
Too bad for Lazio that M Klose had a bad day at the office against Milan. He missed a great, late scoring chance. Hernanes was even poorer and the Lazio coach only gave Hernanes 45 minutes. Anyway Lazio drew 1-1 with Milan and it is good result for Petkovic’s team. The Lazio defender Cana will be suspended this week with Ciani joined by Radu in the Lazio central defence. Gilardino scored and missed a penalty for Genoa and they won the crucial game 1-0 against Parma. Centurion will most likely replace the injured Vrsaljko. Lazio are 4-1-0 at the Olympic Stadium and I guess they ought to win this game.
Livorno Vs Atalanta
No Livorno win since september the 15th, but they were close the other day, 3-2 up at home to Torino. The match ended in a 3-3 draw, but one should remember, Livorno were 0-2 down after some twenty minutes of the game. They will be without the suspended Schiattarella and the injured Biagianti for this fixture, but their forward Siligardi will return. Nica will replace the suspended Stendardo in the Atalanta defence. Atalanta disappointed in their last away game (0-1 vs Sampdoria), but they looked good at home to Inter earlier this week (1-1). They should not lose this match.
Sampdoria Vs Sassuolo
Just the kind of game I expect Sampdoria to win. Not that they are so much better than Sassuolo, but Delio Rossi and Sampdora have had a habit of winning the right fixtures and this is one of them. The Sampdoria cause has been helped by the Zaza suspension. Zaza, the Sassuolo striker. Schelotto suffered an injury the other day and he will probably not recover in time for this game. Home winner.
Torino Vs As Roma
Torino are winless in six games. Basha will be back in their midfield for this game, but they have lost Vives to a suspension. Farnerud, Rodriguez and El Kaddouri should be back in their squad for this game, but they are still troubled by injuries. Roma won again in midweek, but they had to fight hard for their slender 1-0 win against Chievo. Coach Garcia did not exactly start with his best eleven, but when Florenzi and Balzaretti came on in the second half they were able to make the difference. Maicon will be back in their defence for this game, but his defensive colleague Castan will sit out a suspension. No Totti, but Gervinho could possibly be back. Borriello scored the winner against Chievo and he played a great game. Away win.
Udinese Vs Inter
So Udinese won their first away game of the season, 2-1 vs Sassuolo. It was an evenly matched affair, but the Udinese task was made easier when a Sassuolo player was red carded. Udinese were every bit as strong as Roma in their last home game and a similar effort against Inter and Udinese will be the logical winners on Sunday. No Pinzi for the home side and Basta is a doubtful starter. Inter can look a bit wanting offensively with Palacio on his own upfront and a player like D Milito is missed. Logical or not, this match can certainly go either way, but a draw would probably be satisfying for both parties.
